Dates & time

Timesheet Calculator

Add work or project sessions, subtract breaks, and keep a clear breakdown of your total hours.

Shifts and breaks

Enter 1–14 shifts, each lasting at most 24 hours. Use a different name for each shift. Remove unused rows; blank times are not skipped.

Shift 1
Shift 2

2 of 14 shifts

Choose Next day for a shift crossing midnight. Equal start and end times mean 0 hours on the same day or 24 hours on the next day. No dates or time zones are applied.

Enter whole minutes to subtract, or leave blank for zero. Include only breaks you want excluded from the total.

Example: a day shift and an overnight shift, with separate breaks.

Total time after breaks

Ready to add your hours

Recent calculations keeps the last five calculations in this tab. Save inputs file or Copy link to reuse every shift later. CSV contains results; the JSON input file restores conditions. Anyone with the link or file can read the shift names and times.

Examples you can check

Day + night

Two shifts, two breaks

7 h 30 min + 7 h 15 min

09:00–17:00 on the same day with a 30-minute break gives 450 minutes. 22:00–06:00 the next day with a 45-minute break gives 435 minutes. Total elapsed time is 16 hours, breaks are 75 minutes, and net time is 14 h 45 min, or 14.75 hours.

Split shift

Leave the gap out

09:00–12:00 + 14:00–18:00

Enter two rows with zero breaks. The first gives 3 hours and the second 4 hours, for 7 hours. The two-hour gap is not counted. Do not subtract that gap as a break again.

Rounding

Sum minutes first

1 min + 1 min + 1 min = 0.05 h

Three separate one-minute sessions each display approximately 0.02 hours. Their exact sum is 3 minutes, which displays as 0.05 hours, not 0.06. The hour-and-minute result and total minutes remain exact.

Example buttons replace the current rows and calculate the example. Save your current conditions first if you want to keep them.

Calculation method and limits

Clock times use whole minutes from 00:00 through 23:59. For each row, elapsed = end − start + next-day adjustment, where the adjustment is 1,440 minutes only when Next day is selected. Then net = elapsed − break. Each row must span 0–1,440 minutes, and its break cannot exceed its elapsed time. A zero net result is valid.

The calculator adds integer minutes before converting the total to decimal hours by dividing by 60. Only the displayed decimal is rounded, to two decimal places using the site's half-up rule; an approximation mark identifies a rounded value. The NIST time-unit table gives the exact relationship of 60 minutes to one hour. See the calculation policy for the site's precision rules.

These are wall-clock durations, without calendar dates, time zones, or daylight-saving adjustments. Each row is an independent entry, not a dated appointment. Use actual elapsed durations from your time records if clocks changed during a session. This calculator does not determine wages, overtime eligibility, legal breaks, or payroll rounding.

Copy and CSV contain each shift's inputs and results, plus totals. Formula-like names are prefixed with an apostrophe in CSV for spreadsheet safety. JSON input files retain the original labels and can be restored; CSV cannot. Shared links are limited to 2,048 characters. Use Save inputs file for longer timesheets.

Common questions

How is this different from Time Duration and Time Calculator?

Time Duration measures one clock interval. Time Calculator adds or subtracts durations you already know. This timesheet calculates durations from several start/end pairs, subtracts each break, and preserves a reusable row-by-row record.

Is 7.50 hours the same as 7 hours 50 minutes?

No. The decimal part is a fraction of an hour: 0.50 × 60 = 30 minutes. So 7.50 hours means 7 h 30 min. Use the hour-and-minute result if you do not need a decimal.

Why is my overnight shift rejected?

Choose Next day when the interval crosses midnight. A shift over 24 hours is outside this tool's range; divide it into clearly named sessions of at most 24 hours, with each break assigned once.

Does an empty row count as a day off?

No. Remove the row or enter equal same-day times with zero break for an explicit zero-hour entry. A partially filled row is an error so an unfinished shift is not silently lost.

Can I restore a timesheet without calculating?

Yes. Recent calculations, a JSON input file, or a shared link restores every shift in order. Review the values, then select Calculate. Reset restores two blank shifts, Same day, and zero breaks.
